Naval officer escapes isolation centre to smoke weed

A Naval officer who tested positive to covid-19 has escaped the isolation centre in Oghara, Delta state, after threatening doctors and nurses with a jackknife.

The suspect identified as SM Ahmadu was brought in on May 1, 2020, and was at the Isolation centre till Saturday, May 10, when he escaped.

Reports gathered that the navy officer had requested to smoke marijuana when he was brought to the centre last week but he was denied permission to smoke.

When asked what could have informed his action to abscond, sources said the officer appeared like a drug addict, adding that he looked like one suffering drug withdrawal syndrome.
