Paris, FRANCE – He may have come a fourth in the 2007 Ballon d’Or awards, but on Monday, Didier Drogba will be the main host of this year’s edition in the French capital.

The Ivorian football legend will team up with French football journalist Sandy Heribert to present the prestigious gala night that will have some of the biggest names in the sport gathered at the Théâtre du Châtelet.

Lionel Messi, six-time winner, and Megan Rapinoe are the holders of the men’s and women’s accolades, after their coronation in 2019. The following year, the award was not given after a season marked by Covid-19.

180 specialized journalists from all over the world cast a vote for the men’s Ballon d’Or, the same for the Kopa Trophy (best young player under 21 years) and the Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper). While to decide the women’s Ballon d’Or, there will be a vote among 50 journalists specializing in women’s football.
